A MAD Evening at Strathpeffer Community Centre. 

Until the 19th century, most of what Highlanders ate passed through a local milling process. That process included querns, horizontal mills and watermills. Mills turn up in historical documents, on maps, and in the landscape as archaeological remains. This evening's meeting will consist of several presentations reflecting that range of milling options. 

 

Anne Coombs will present some horizontal mills she has seen and loved. 

 

Marion Ruscoe will present the engaging story of the Petty Tidal mill, and the results of the recent NOSAS surveys. 

 

 

 

 

 

Roland will present the discovery of the previously lost Breakachy mill, setting this mill into a wider landscape and social context.
